Macbeth - Alan CummingThe much anticipated redux of Shakespeare’s Macbeth, starring Alan Cumming, opened on Broadway on April 21, 2013.  The play has been re-conceived as a one man version of the play, set in an insane asylum, where Cumming plays every role himself.  The virtuoso performance is unanimously raised by critics for its shear stamina alone, however some critics did not love the gimmick as much as others, finding the depth of the performance lacking.

This adaptation of the play began at the national Theatre of Scotland and then made its way to the lLincoln Center Festival last summer prior to its Broadway incarnation. The production is co-directed by John Tiffany (Once) and Andrew Goldberg (Bomb-itty of Errors) and is a limited engagement of only 73 performances total.

Macbeth is playing at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre.
