David Mamet’s new 70-minute drama, The Anarchist, opened on Sunday night at the Golden Theatre. The two-character production stars Latti LuPone and Debra Winger is the latest self-directed play by Mamet to open on Broadway. Just a few doors down a revival of his Glengarry Glen Ross prepares to open on December 8.
According to critics, LuPone expertly navigates Mamet’s “clipped” dialogue– valiantly and compellingly driving what emotional content exists within the play. In her Broadway debut, Winger, unfortunately, is unable to grasp the same ferocity and lacks her usual spark.
