Audra McDonald and Will Swenson marry in small ceremony

Broadway sweethearts, Audra McDonald and Will Swenson married over the weekend on October 6 at their home in Croton-on-Hudson, NY.

The two got engaged this past New Year’s while on vacation in Puerto Rico.

McDonald’s dress was designed by Porgy and Bess designer and “Project Runway” finalist ESosa. ESosa was Tony Award nominated for his work of The Gershwins’ Porgy and Bess, for which McDonald won her fifth Tony Award.

McDonald is known for her numerous Broadway roles, including Tony Award winninging performances in Carousel, Master Class, Ragtime and A Raison in the Sun. She also appeared as Dr. Naomi Bennet on ABC’s “Private Practice” alongside Taye Diggs. Swenson was Tony Award nominated in 2009 for playing Berger in the revival of Hair. The two met while in rehearsals for the 2007 Broadway revival of 110 in the Shade, in which McDonald starred as Lizzie and Swenson understudied Starbuck, Lizzie’s love interest.

This is the second marriage for McDonald, 42, and Swenson, 38, who have children with their former spouses. McDonald is mother to one daughter, Zoe Madeline, 11, and Swenson is father to two sons, Bridger, 11, and Sawyer, 8.
