Supermodel Christie Brinkley returns to Broadway musical Chicago today, April 6. Brinkley will play a limited run as Roxie Hart through April 27 at the Ambassador Theatre. Brinkley is also set to join the musicals natioanl tour during its Los Angeles engagement at the Panatages Theatre from May 15-27.
Brinkley made her Broadway debut back in April 2011 in Chicago and reprised her role as Roxie in London’s West End production. Writers at Trip Advisor had this to say: “…Christie Brinkley was horribly miscast- she can neither sing nor dance, and her acting was really weak.” And “…she looked the part but it stopped there, can’t sing, dance or act very well. She should have stuck to her modeling career.”
Christie began acting in 1983 opposite Chevy Chase in the feature film “National Lampoon’s Vacation.” She also appeared on NBC’s “Mad About You” and hosted Lifetime Television’s “InStyle Celebrity Weddings,” which became the highest-rated special in Lifetime’s history. She has been featured on the cover of Sports Illustrated’s Swimsuit Issue as well as in many other magazines ad campaigns.
Chicago won the Tony Award for Best Revival of a Musical in 1997 as well as 5 other awards for actors Bebe Neuwirth and James Naughton, director Walter Bobbie, lighting designer Ken Billington and choreographer Ann Reinking. The original production was directed and choreographed by the late Bob Fosse. The revival currently stars Tony Yazbeck as Billy Flynn, Amra-Faye Wright as Velma Kelly, Carol Woods as Matron “Mama” Morton and Raymond Bokhour as Amos Hart.
