The revival of David Henry Hwang’s Golden Child begins performances today, October 23, at off-Broadway’s Pershing Square Signature Center. The production stars Greg Watanabe and Jennifer Lim and is directed by Leigh Silverman. It officially opens on November 13 and will run through December 9.

Golden Child stars Lesley Hu as Eng Eling, third wife; Jennifer Lim as Eng Luan, second wife; Matthew Maher as Reverand Baines; Annie Q as Eng Ahn, daughter; Julyana Soelistyo as Eng Sio-Yong, first wife; and Greg Wantanabe as Grandson/Eng Tieng Bin.

The play tells the story of a Chinese businessman who, after three years working abroad, sets off a dangerous power struggle in his polygamous Chinese household.  The play, 1997 Obie Award-winning and 1998 Tony nominated, is inspired by David Henry Hwang’s own family history.  It explores the often-painful process through which change comes to people and cultures.

The production features scenic design by Neil Patel, costume design by Anita Yavich, lighting design by Matt Frey, sound design by Darron L. West and projection design by Darrel Maloney.
