No reviews necessary. Glengarry Glen Ross is a hit! Even so, over the weekend the David Mamet drama opened at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre and reviews aren’t overwhelmingly favorable. Though critics call the revival sluggish, fans of Pacino are attending in droves. The production consistently grosses more than $1 million and this week is no exception. Check out our review round-up:
According to press notes, “The stakes are high at a fly by night Chicago real estate office: 1st prize- a new Cadillac, 2nd prize- a set of steak knives, 3rd prize- you’re fired! Glengarry slices to the core of the American dream and exposes the depths people will go to stay on top of the game. Mamet himself worked in a real estate office in Chicago in 1969 setting up appointments for salesmen, and the play is influenced by the cutthroat politics he encountered.”
Glengarry Glen Ross is produced by Jeffrey Richards, Jerry Frankel, and Jam Theatricals who produced the 2005 Tony Award winning revival and subsequently worked with Mamet, producing November, Speed-The-Plow, A Life in The Theatre and Race.
