Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong to Write Songs for Rock Adaptation of Much Ado About Nothing

Billy Joe Armstrong, lead singer of Green Day and writer of the recent Broadway show American Idiot, the Musical, will write songs for These Paper Bullets , a rock ‘n roll updating of Much Ado About Nothing. The new show is scheduled to premiere at Yale rep in March of next year! Jackson Gay will direct.

Set in London, the play tells the story of a band from Liverpool dealing with love and the music industry. It marks Armstrong’s return to theatre after the success of American Idiot, for which he wrote the book, music and lyrics. American Idiot was nominated for the 2010 Tony Award for Best Musical.

These Paper Bullets is one of six productions set to play Yale Rep’s 2013-13 season. The premiere of The House That Will Not Stand, written by Marcus Gardley and directed by Patricia McGregor, as well as productions of Tennessee Williams’s A Streetcar Named Desire, Caryl Churchill’s Owners, Dario Fo’s Accidental Death of an Anarchist, and Meg Miroshnik’s play The Fairytale Lives of Russian Girls.
