This year’s most Tony Award nominated productions saw a slight bump in ticket sales in the week leading up to the ceremony. The acclaimed musical Once, which was nominated for 11 Tony Awards and won a total of eight, including Best Musical Direction, Best Lead Actor in a Musical and high honors for Best Musical overall, played to a full house, just shy of 100% capacity. The production also posted its highest weekly gross to date, with $845,343. Newsies played to a full house as well as the production inches its way back into the millionaire club. The show grossed $997,067.

Best Play contenders Peter and the Starcatcher and Venus in Fur both saw bumps of over $100,000 from the previous week.

Godspell continues to suffer. The show, which was not nominated for any Tony Awards but managed to earn a performance spot, grossed only $156,437 and played at an average capacity of just 45.78%. Producer Ken Davenport alluded to a show closing date of June 24 if things did not turn around quickly.
