Emmy Award nominees John Stamos, Golden Globe Award winner Cybill Shepard, Emmy Award nominee Kristen Davis and Tony Award winner Elizabeth Ashley will join the cast of the Tony Award nominated Broadway revival of Gore Vidal’s The Best Man this July when original cast members Candice Bergen, Eric McCormack, Kerry Butler and Angela Lansbury depart the production.
Stamos, Shepard and Davis will begin performances on Tuesday, July 10, 2012 at 7:00 PM, while Ashley will begin on Tuesday, July 24, 2012 at 7:00 PM.
Original cast members James Earl Jones, John Larroquette, Jefferson Mays, as well ad Mark Blum, who replaces the injured Michael McKean, will remain with the production through its final performance on Sunday, September 9, 2012.
Gore Vidal’s The Best Man also features Curtis Billings, Corey Brill, Tony Calrin, Donna Hanover, Sherman Howard, Olja Hrustic, Bill Kux, James LeCesne, Dakin Mathews, Angelica Page, Fred Parker, Jr. and Amy Tribbey.
Stamos has appeared on Broadway in Bye Bye Birdie, How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, Cabaret, and Nine. His film and TV appearances include Full “House”, “ER”, guest appearances on “Glee” and the television adaptation of “A Raison in the Sun” alongside Audra McDonald, Sean Combs, Sanaa Lathan and Phylicia Rashad.
Shepherd will make her Broadway debut in The Best Man. Her film ad TV credits include The Client List, Taxi Driver, The Heartbreak Kid and Psych. Davis is best known for her portrayal of Charlotte on TV’s “Sex and the City”. She also will make her Broadway debut. Ashley earned a Tony for Take Her, She’s Mine and Tony nominations for Barefoot in the Park and Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. Her additional Broadway credits include Dividing the Estate, Enchanted April, August: Osage County, Agnes of God, and Caesar and Cleopatra. Ashley previously played the role of Mrs. Sue-Ellen Gamadge in the 2000 Broadway revival of The Best Man.
