The Revisionist , written by and starring Jesse Eisenberg of “Social Network” fame, opened last night at the Cherry Lane Theatre. Vanessa Redgrave also stars.
Reviews are mixed for Eisenberg’s second go for the Rattestick Playwrights Theater. Last season he wrote and starred in Asuncion, which also played at Cherry Lane Theatre. Vanessa Redgrave receives all-around praise for her performance as a 75-year-old Holocaust survivor. Unfortunately, Eisenberg’s character is written in a way that makes him not only difficult to like, but also difficult to care about—decreasing the likelihood that audiences can become invested in the play. In all, critics feel the play is worthy of revisions—which isn’t so bad, at all.
Never mind that; star power has his advantages. The Play has already been extended three weeks.
