“Smash” is hanging on by a thread. Though NBC has not totally dropped the musical series, the network has decided to move the show to Saturday nights.
Starting on April 6, “Smash” will air Saturdays at 9PM, rather than its current slot, Tuesdays at 10PM. As of now, NBC plans to air the remainder of “Smash’s” 17-episode order.
The news comes after very disappointing ratings. Tuesday’s episode earned a 1.4 rating in 18-49 this week, with only 4.78 million in viewers. Last year, the show averaged 9.65 million viewers and a 3.4 rating in the demo.
“Smash” details the backstage drama of the theater world—this season featuring three musicals hoping for Broadway success: the Marilyn Monroe musical of last season called Bombshell, a musical version of Les Liaisons Dangereuses and the new musical Hit List. “Smash” features Katherine McPhee, Megan Hilty, Jeremy Jordan, Christian Borle, Debra Messing and Jack Davenport.
